The News Module allows you to add news articles.
The first pages will list all of your current news articles. A default of 10 articles will be displayed in order of newest to oldest based on date published.
You can edit or delete existing articles by clicking on the corresponding link to the right of each listed article.
Add New
To add a new article, click the link at the top of the list to "Add New". This will load a form for entering the information for your new article.
Date: Enter the date of the article. This effects the order in which the articles are displayed in the administration and user pages of your website. It is important that you enter the date format as
mm/dd/yyyy hh:ii.
WYSIWYG: Select OFF and press the Preview button to turn off the WYSIWYG editor for this Section. This features is helpful if you are trying to enter special code that may be altered incorrectly by the WYSIWYG editor.
Category: Select the category under which you wish to publish your article. In most cases, you may only have a single category under which all of your news is posted. However, your news may be categorized to be displayed on separate pages. The "New Category" link to the right of this selection will allow direct you to a new page where you can create/manage your categories without saving the current page data.
Forum: If you have Forums installed, you may select a forum category to which to post this article.
Title: Enter the title of the article.
Byline: Usually you will enter the first portion of your article here which is a summary of the entire post. This is often displayed as the short entry of your article on the page that lists all of your news items. If your article is short, then you may want to enter the entire story in this field.
Continued Story: Enter the remaining content of your story. This will be displayed when the user clicks to view the full article. Usually, this is a continuation of the Byline as entered above. If content is entered in this field, a "read more" link may be displayed under the Byline on the page that lists all of the articles.
Notes: This text is usually displayed under the Byline in italics on the article list pages and under the entire article on the full article page.
Images: Your website may or may not have been setup with this feature. This image is displayed based on the construction of your website. You can define an image that already exists on your website or the internet if you already know the link to that image. You may instead upload an image that you have saved on your computer by pressing the Browse button. Please view the restrictions listed above these fields for uploading your images.
Files: Your website may or may not have been setup with this feature. This file is linked with your article based on the construction of your website. You can define a file that already exists on your website or the internet if you already know the link to that file. You may instead upload a file that you have saved on your computer by pressing the Browse button. Please view the restrictions listed above these fields for uploading your files.
You may also enter a name for the file which is displayed on the page. This name will be displayed in place of the uploaded file name if a name is entered.
Preview/Post: You may preview your article before posting it to your site to confirm that it will appear as you expect. Press Post to post the article and make it available on your site.
Edit
Editing an article avails you to the same options as listed above for adding a new article.
Settings
The settings will allow you to modify the options and display of this module. These settings are set for you upon installation and should not require any changes.
Categories
The categories allow you to organize your articles. Most sites do not require the use of multiple categories and will not require any administration. This page provides you with a list of your existing categories as well as links to go back to the news article listings or add a new category.
If your site does use multiple categories, then they will allow you to display category specific news on separate pages.
Add New
Title: This is the name of your category. This is the only required field.
Description: This description of your category entered here may be used differently depending on the construction of your website. It may be displayed at the top of the news page for the user or may be displayed on a page listing all of your available news categories.
Image: This image may not be used depending on the construction of your website. It may be placed within the text of the article for classification. It may also be used on the page that lists all of your available categories.
Post: Save your changes.
