The NewsGen (news Generation) module was created to assist in the finding and posting of news. It will compile a list of new articles posted by sites that you have listed. You can then decide to add, modify or delete each found article in regards to your site.
List Newsfeeds
This is a list of news feeds that you have entered. These news feeds are URLs to
RSS (XML) pages. They link to pages that are formatted as RSS feeds or they will not work.
All entered news feeds will be list on this page and offer you options to modify them. The columns presented are:
Order: This is the order in which they are search when you compile a list of available news articles.
Title: The title as was entered when creating this news feed.
Last Date: The last time this news feed was checked for news.
Edit/Delete: These links allow for modification of the Weblinks.
Add Newsfeed / Edit Newsfeed
Adding and editing news feeds provides you with the same form. For existing news feeds, the Feed ID (unique identifier) and Last Update date is also presented along with the following fields:
Order: This is the order in which they are search when you compile a list of available news articles.
Title: This is the title of your news feed and is for your information only.
URL: This is the URL (link) to the RSS feed that is being queried for news. It must be entered as a full URL (http://).
Description: This is a description of the news feed and is for your information only.
Default Category: This is the news category under which this news should most commonly be posted. You can still select a different category when posting news from this module, however this will be the default category. These categories are part of the News module.
Press Update to apply your changes for this feed entry.
Available Newsfeeds
This page will provide you with a list of available news as found via your feeds. In some cases, this page may take a little longer to load as it must go to each feed URL you have entered and look for the latest news.
Each article found will be displayed under the title of the news feed for which it was found. It will be displayed in date order (newest to oldest). With each, you have several options on how to continue.
Title: This is the title of the news article and it can be modified here for posting.
Show/Hide: These links will present you with more options for this article as list below.
Post/Delete/Do Nothing: Select the option you wish to perform for this article. If you select Post or Delete, this item will not show up again in this list of news articles. If you select post, this item will be posted in your news system for your website.
Open in News Admin: Click this link to open this article directly in the News module administration. There you can adjust the article as you wish and continue to post it. This link will have no affect on the articles listing in the NewsGen module.
<Click Show for the following options> Description: This is the news article as found from your news source. You can modify the article before posting here.
Source: This is the source name of the article found. It will be inserted into the Notes of your News administration and linked with the link below. Remember to give credit to articles posted where credit is due.
URL: This is the direct link to this article on the site upon which it was found.
Open: Click this link to open the source of this article in a new window.
Clear Source: Click this link to clear this field. Clearing this field will remove the entry into the Notes of this article.
Category: This is the News category under which it will be posted. These categories are defined by your News Module.
Press Update to apply any changes made above.
